Soooo, My Social Media Got Hacked

Yep, I got hacked. I would love to tell you that I handled this situation well…. But I did not!

I was lucky that I caught it right away and shut down the account. But it was still a very frustrating situation, as when I tried to recover my account everything was in French, and I don’t speak or read French. The situation to begin with is frustrating, especially as I am already busy enough as it is, so I didn’t not have time scheduled in for that kind of drama, then the language issue on top of it… like I said, I did not handle it well.

I was angry, let it ruin my day, and then proceeded to snap at my kids, like it was their doing or something. Why do we do that? Why do we take our frustrations out on those closest to us, and on the people we love the most? I was talking to my hair dresser about this and she just laughed and said, “It’s because we know they will still love us, and if we are miserable we want them to feel part of the pain too.” Maybe this is why the saying “misery loves company” came into play.

In reality, it should be the opposite. When we are struggling or having a bad day, we should be calm and kinder to the ones we love, as they can help comfort us through the bad days. Fortunately for my children I did not carry on like this for too long, I eventually got my head out of my ass and said, “This shit is stupid.” I went and poured myself a drink, turned on some good music, apologized to my kids, and cooked us all dinner.

This event certainly did make me stop and think, the booze might have help too, hahaha. For my small business I do rely on social media for exposure and marketing, and all that jazz. But, it made me think and realize that I was putting too much effort and time into just one outlet. I have too many eggs in just that one basket. I personally have more of you guys on my Newsletter email list and who read my blogs than people who follow me on social media. So why was I giving it so much of my attention?

Just like investing your money, you should diversify. This was the perfect wake up call for me that I needed to diversify my time and energy. So, I am putting this experience down as a wonderful lesson and a blessing, as it was the eye opener that I needed. It doesn’t have to be about social media, or your work, but is their an area in your life that you are spending way too much time and energy on? If you diversified a little bit more, life would be easier and smoother?

Thank you to all of you who read my blogs, buy my pottery, and sign up for my email list. I appreciate each and everyone of you. I hope what I do helps your life be just a little bit happier and easier.
