We are still open, and here’s why

Off Your Rocker Pottery is probably different from any other place you shop, and here’s how. We are small, and I mean very small, every single piece is handmade by me, Lindsay Klix. After having my two daughters I moved my studio into my home in order to follow my dream. See, my dream was not just to make pottery, but also be able to raise my kids, having my studio in my home was the only way I could accomplish both. I also personally box up your orders and ship them out. So working from home and social distancing, it’s kinda the norm over here. I’m teased by my boyfriend that I’m the best prepared for our current pandemic situation. 

But that does not mean that we are not doing our part, my family is, and I urge you to do the same! We are not personally in the “high risk” category for COVID -19, BUT many people that we love are. It is our responsibility to help protect everyone, not just ourselves. 

Originally it was thought that risk factors were just older age, and “underlying health issues”, but more information is showing it could be many more issues that put people at high risk. Things such as diabetes, high blood pressure, being overweight, Down syndrome, stroke, having had cancer, pregnant women, and so on. Now these findings are still being looked into as this is a brand-new virus. I don’t know about you, but I love people who fall into these categories, and I want them to stay healthy and well. 

So we are doing our part and staying in and hanging with just us. No roller skating, no play dates, no dinner parties, or getting together with friends at each other’s homes. We canceled spring break plans to go visit family in Alabama and have canceled plans for my birthday that is coming up. We shop for food when we need to and plan out our grocery list, so we go to the store as little as possible. We are also NOT stock piling toilet paper; we have what we need and are not hoarding. I urge you to do the same. 

I think it’s wonderful that we live during a time where many people can work from home. I also know that many cannot and must still go into work every day. Thank you to all of you who are at work and keeping our country running. 

Maybe we will look back in several months and think the government and everyone else over reacted, but I would much rather look back thinking that, then to look back with regret that we didn’t do more. Right now in my state, IL, our schools, bars, and restaurants are shut down for a few weeks, so we are going to follow the recommendations that are laid out before us. Please do the same so we can all get over this sooner than later.
